The Monterey County Business Portal is a public/private partnership that was launched as an initiative of the Competitive Clusters (C2) project in order to improve communications efficiency and accessibility of information for economic development within this geographically large county; consolidate and upgrade existing static, non-database, business-related Web resources; foster entrepreneurship for job creation and economic diversification within the region; provide access to expert advice and deep knowledge in relevant industries via a trusted support network and knowledge base; and improve the overall image of Monterey County as a business and technology-friendly community.

Overnight Hightway 1 PG&E permit project in Monterey begins Sunday

An overnight project under permit to PG & E to hydrotest a gas pipeline along Hwy. 1 from Fremont/Camino El Estero to the Ocean Avenue/Hwy. 1 intersection in Monterey will begin on Sunday, July 20 at 8 pm, Caltrans officials have announced. Roadwork consists of partial lane closures from 8 pm to 5 am for six nights, Sunday through Friday with no overnight Saturday work. There may be possible slow movement at the intersection of Ocean Avenue and Highway 1. Motorists can expect delays not to exceed 10 minutes. Work is expected to be completed in early September.

The purpose of this work is to ensure pipeline safety. The contractor for this permit project is PG&E of San Ramon. Caltrans reminds motorists to move over or slow down when driving through highway work zones. Arts Coalition Group in Salinas There is a group of residents in the City of Salinas that is brainstorming ideas on how to create an arts coalition group. The idea is to connect the Salinas art organizations, individuals, and other groups to give them a voice, and to share opportunities. It’s a chance to use your skills to tackle two big fisheries challenges that need solutions if we want our oceans – and ocean wildlife – to stay healthy for future generations.

Board of Supervisors proclaim Monterey County as a Purple Heart County On April 22, 2014, the Monterey County Board of Supervisors formally proclaimed Monterey County as a Purple Heart County honoring the service and sacrifice of our nation’s men and women in uniform wounded or killed by the enemy while serving to protect the freedom enjoyed by all Americans and that Monterey County officially designates our County in remembering and recognition of veterans who are recipients of the Purple Heart Medal. New Citizen Alert will require all previously registered participants to re-register. Monterey County and all Cities within the county have implemented an emergency notification system that will be used to contact County and City residents and businesses via recorded phone messages, text messages or e-mail messages in case of emergency. To register you will need to create a minimum eight character password. This will enable you to update your contact information whenever it changes. Click here for information on reregistering.

Agency that helps people secure government contracts gets renewal. The Monterey Bay Procurement Technical Assistance Center in Seaside helped businesses get more than $9.4 million in government contracts in its first year.

The free service will keep at it until at least August 2014, following its recent grant award from the Defense Logistics Agency.

Monterey Bay Central Labor Council’s position on Measure K & M - Cesar Lara, Executive Director - PRESS RELEASE FROM MONTEREY BAY LABOR COUNCIL, AFL-CIO. Last week in The Monterey County Herald, a Guest Commentary Section written by Luana Conley, was titled "Check the facts on K and M."

Ms. Conley wrote "The Monterey Bay Central Labor Council voted unanimously not to support Measure K, calling its jobs projection an empty promise."

In yesterday’s letter to the editor in the The Salinas Californian, by Lisa Deas wrote that “The Monterey Bay Central Labor Council voted no on Measure /Monterey Downs”. Neither fact is correct.
