MCBC 14th Anniversary Gala & Annual Economic Vitality Awards

The Economic Vitality Award is presented annually by the Monterey County Business Council, a non-profit group of individuals who are interested in shaping the future of Monterey County and have a vested interest in the economic vitality of the community.

Nearly 200 guests attended Monterey County Business Council's 14th Anniversary Gala on Saturday, February 6, 2010 at the Inn at Spanish Bay honoring nine distinguished individuals for their leadership and contributions to the economic vitality of Monterey County. Hosting the evening was Mary Ann Leffel, MCBC President.
The awards mirrored MCBC's Competitive Clusters (C2) initiative with six industry clusters: Agriculture, Tourism, Education & Research, Building & Design, Wellness & Lifestyle, and Creative & Technology.
Receiving the awards were:
- Leon Panetta, Panetta Institute, Public Service Award;
- Sylvia Panetta, Panetta Institute, Education Award;
- David Gill, Rio Ranch, Agriculture Award;
- Ted Balestreri, Cannery Row Company, Tourism Award;
- Sam Downing, Salinas Valley Memorial Healthcare System, and Dr. Steven Packer, Community Hospital of the Monterey Peninsula, Health Award;
- Bill Hayward, Hayward Lumber, Building Award;
- Dr. Steven Webster, Monterey Bay Aquarium; Marine Science Award; and
- Alan Silvestri, movie music scores, Arts / Technology Award.
The nine honorees from the six industry clusters were also presented with Certificates of Appreciation from Assemblymember Bill Monning, Rito Guerra from the office of Senator Abel Maldonado, and Seaside Mayor Ralph Rubio for their contribution to the economic vitality, growth and preservation of Monterey County through their respective careers.
David Armanasco, Armanasco Public Relations, was master of ceremony, with video by Bob Franco, Endorphin Productions.
